Less Is More

Posted on by Youth for Christ

Hello, my name is Jacob Gomez. I am currently working with Juvenile Justice Ministry (JJM) at the Porter County Juvenile Detention Center in Northwest Indiana. It has been very rewarding to have the opportunity to make a difference in a young person's life. The motto I use for JJM is “less is more”. Sometimes just listening is exactly what's needed for meetings like the one I recently had with a 15 year old young man.

He told me he was a mistake and then proceeded to list the moments in his life that led him to believe this.

As I listened I asked God what do I tell a kid who is uncertain of his existence?

After he was done speaking I knew right then to offer hope and show him the goodness and hope of Jesus. He listened as I shared the truth of why he was born and the reality of his purpose here on earth. I was able to pray for him and see his countenance change.

This young man struggles with drug addictions and has been placed in a program where I’m hopeful he will get the help he needs.  Hope is the important message these kids need to hear.

I'm thankful for the opportunity to serve with JJM. It's been a wonderful season to minister to kids who are sometimes forgotten.  Thank you for your prayers and support!
